Ford is serious about its commitment to electric vehicles like the upcoming Mustang Mach-E. To prove just how determined Ford is to go green with panache, the automaker recently revealed the insanely powerful Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 concept.
The electric Mustang Cobra specs are out of this world, even for Ford’s most mighty nameplate. The all-electric concept car’s behemoth engine touts an astounding 1,100 lb-ft of torque and 1,400 horsepower. More impressive still, the Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 can traverse a quarter-mile portion of the track in less than eight seconds thanks to its astronomical 170 mph top speed.
The Ford Icons Global Director, Dave Pericak, explains why the idea of an electric Mustang is so enticing for Ford engineers: “Electric powertrains give us a completely new kind of performance and the all-electric Cobra Jet 1400 is one example of pushing new technology to the absolute limit.”
The electric Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 is not expected to be mass-produced or appear as a fixture in the racing world, but eco-friendly speed enthusiasts can watch the supercar tear up the track at an upcoming drag racing event later this year. In the meanwhile, we can all keep dreaming of the day that Ford’s electric vehicle lineup will include a zero-emissions pony.
